IN A historic moment for the Melbourne spring carnival yesterday, the first two horses from Macau to contend for the riches on offer arrived at Tullamarine Airport just after noon. But for the horses themselves, it was a bit like a homecoming, reports The Age.

It says: Both Luen Yat Forever and Good Control were born, bred and sold in Australia before going to Macau. Luen Yat Forever, who is by Danehill's son Honours List out of former Melbourne-based Langfuhr mare Loisset, could contest such races as the $3 million Cox Plate as, despite never racing beyond 1800 metres, he is the only horse to win the triple crown of the Macau Guineas, Derby and Gold Cup.

Good Control, who is by Fasiliyev out of multi-Sydney-winning Marauding mare Change Of Control, has a comparatively moderate race record and will instead be aimed at lesser sprint races over the carnival.

Racing Victoria Ltd's operations manager Leigh Jordon said both horses managed the 20-hour trip from Macau (by sea) to Hong Kong and then on to Melbourne in good order. ''Luen Yat Forever is a great performer. He's won three group 1 races, he's a real iron horse from what I've seen and we're looking forward to him maybe running in the Cox Plate.

''Good Control is one of Macau's top sprinters. He's won numerous group races in Macau and also ran second in Dubai over the carnival so he's a very good sprinter.''

Luen Yat Forever is expected to make his Australian debut in the group 1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on October 9.
