DUAL Cox Plate winner So You Think remains a chance to defend his title at Moonee Valley in October, but it is more likely racing giant Coolmore will be represented by last year's Irish Derby winner, Cape Blanco, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
It says: So You Think headed the 189 Cox Plate nominations released yesterday, along with the Caulfield Cup, which drew 236 entries including one from the Queen. Irish master trainer Aidan O'Brien entered So You Think in the Cox Plate and added Cape Blanco, a group 1 winner on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
Coolmore's Australia racing manager, Tom Magnier, said there had been no decision on whether the classy pair would travel to Australia with quarantine issues still clouding any involvement. However, O'Brien is keen to have a runner in the Cox Plate and had earmarked Cape Blanco, which won the Man O'War Stakes at Belmont in the US last month.
''He is the horse that the trainer thinks is suitable for the race,'' Magnier said. ''The Cox Plate is a race with great prizemoney and is definitely on our radar and we want to have a runner. There are still a few issues we need to get organised before any horse would be coming [to Australia]. I will be talking to Aidan in the next couple of days but we are keeping our options open with both horses.''
