The Rick Hore-Lacy trained Chase the Rainbow will almost certainly miss the rest of the Spring Racing Carnival after it was discovered on Friday that the gelding had pulled up lame following track work.

The full extent of the injury will become clearer after the horse undertakes a full body scan at the Werribee Equine Centre tomorrow, however it looks extremely doubtful he will race again this spring.

The news comes as a cruel blow to the stable after the horse had only just returned from nearly a year away from the racetrack to win impressively first up at Caulfield last weekend.

Hore-Lacy had been aiming the four-year-old son of Dash for Cash at the BMW Caulfield Cup in October and the gelding also held a nomination for the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

A four time winner from only the seven career starts, Chase the Rainbow's most impressive victory came when he defied the pattern of the night to come from last and take out last year's G2 Bill Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley. (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
