The final international contenders for the $6.2 million Emirates Melbourne Cup have touched down safely in Melbourne after completing their journey from London.
Lost In The Moment and Cavalryman are settling into the TAB International Horse Centre at Werribee after completing the 23 hour journey via Dubai on owner Godolphin's private cargo plane.
"The horses travelled well and have settled into their boxes here at Werribee," Godolphin travelling foreman Tommy Strang, a regular visitor to Melbourne, said.
"The first 24 hours are always important to see how the horse recovers from the trip, but we're very happy with the way these to have handled the trip thus far and are looking forward to the Cup."
Godolphin and trainer Saeed bin Suroor are chasing their first Cup win having post four minor placings from 15 starters since they first targeted the Flemington feature in 1998.
Lost In The Moment returns to Melbourne having finished sixth in last year's Cup, whilst Cavalryman, a placegetter in the 2009 Arc de Triomphe, is making his first appearance down under.
The pair come off minor placings in the Listed Rose Bowl over 3200 metres at Newmarket on 27 September, with Cavalryman a dual Listed winner in the UK over recent months.
Cavalryman is currently 12th in the Melbourne Cup Order of Entry with 54kg, whilst Lost In The Moment is only 29th with 53kg and thus must rely upon attrition to force his way into the final field on the first Tuesday in November.
The arrival of the Godolphin duo comes on the day that the global racing giant announced that it would not be renewing its contract with superstar jockey Frankie Dettori next year.
Dettori is expected to be aboard Cavalryman in the Cup in what would be one of his final engagements for Godolphin.
Local ace Kerrin McEvoy, who piloted All The Good to victory in the 2008 BMW Caulfield Cup for Godolphin, is expected to ride Lost In The Moment. (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
