Report from NZ Thoroughbred News
Taranaki filly Ekstreme (NZ) firmed into favouritism for this Saturday's Queensland Oaks (2400m) on Wednesday following a favourable barrier draw.
In the hands of NZ jockey Opie Bosson, the 3YO Ekraar filly will make her Gr.1 bid from the 8 stall.
Trainer Bryce Revell was suitably impressed with her impressive last start effort for second in the Doomben Roses (2020m) and is confident of her ability to get the 2400m trip on Saturday.
Whilst hindered for a run in the NZ Oaks - her only attempt at 2400m, Ekstreme has twice scored at distances of 2000m plus, with the most notable of these being her win over Daffodil in February's Gr.3 Lowland Stakes (2100m).
Adding extra weight to New Zealand's breeding hand in the Gr.1 Eagle Farm feature will be Nothin Leica Cat (NZ), Can't Keeper Down (NZ), Juice (NZ) and Walk In The Park (NZ).
Further, the NZ-trained flag will be wielded on Saturday with Graeme Rogerson's last start Doomben Roses winner, Awesome Plant and with Michael Moroney's Trans-Tasman winner Prix Du Sang.
Nothin Leica Cat (NZ) (Tale of the Cat) was the second elect at time of writing, with strong form coming around the Anthony Cummings-trained filly's 4th to Daffodil in the AJC Oaks and around her last start tick over 2200m.
Can't Keeper Down (NZ) acts as the second of four NZ-bred raiders in the field. Trained by Lisa Latta, the Keeper filly finished 0.4 of a length in second in the NZ Oaks and to this brings a last start win over 1550m at Rotorua to the mix.
Juice (NZ) (Bertolini) may have blotted her copy book at her last start in the Doomben Roses, but could easily turn this around for trainer John Wheeler if she fronts in the sort of form that saw her defeat Daffodil in the Gr.3 Hawke's Bay Gold Trail Stakes (1200m).
Walk In The Park (NZ) (Thorn Park) will be fitted by her two Australian starts to date for NZ trainer Andrew Scott and brings to the equation two wins at 1600m and a runner-up effort in the Gr.2 Royal Stakes (2000m).
