CRANBOURNE gelding Domesky earned himself a crack at the group 1 $1.5 million AJC Derby at Randwick on April 9 with a win at last night's group 2 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley, reports The Age (www.theage.com.au).

It says: The gelding's trainer Mick Kent said he has been confident the son of Domesday would be an AJC Derby prospect for some time and was delighted with Domesky's finishing burst at his first attempt at 2040 metres.

''We're off to the Tulloch Stakes [2000 metres at Rosehill on April 2] in two weeks and then onto the derby,'' he said. ''He's always shown me he's a real stayer and tonight he was the best he's ever been so I was pretty confident he would go close.'' Ridden by Craig Williams and starting at $9, Domesky finished over the top of Coldens Choice ($20) and the $3.50 favourite Folding Gear, who tried to lead throughout. The race lost two of its main chances when Elusive King and Kim Divine were both scratched at the barrier.
