Newly gelded Flying Spur three year-old Dempsey might be ready to deliver on his potential judging by a powerful win at the transferred metropolitan meeting held on the synthetic track at Geelong on Wednesday, reports www.breednet.com.au.

It says: The David Hayes trained Dempsey settled worse than midfield from his wide draw and steamed home for Brad Rawiller to win the Ratings 68 event over 1300 metres by the best part of a length.

"Gelding him might let us see the best of him," Hayes's assistant trainer Tom Dabernig said. "This is the first preparation he has raced as a gelding and he has had no luck at all. We were confident he could perform first-up in Adelaide but he was found to have atrial fibrillation after the race and he was caught wide again at Ballarat last time out. He's definitely a horse with a future."

A $550,000 purchase from Southern Cross Breeders at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Dempsey runs for a syndicate that includes Arrowfield Stud in whose colours he runs and Blue Sky Thoroughbreds.

A winner of three of his nine starts to date, Dempsey was bred by Senga Bissett and Ivan Woodford-Smith and is a half-brother to brilliant s printer and sire Murphy's Blue Boy being from the smart producer Murphy's Arch.
