THE Cummings clan has weight of numbers on its side in a bid to win Saturday's Caulfield Cup but Anthony Cummings will first try to snare today's group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield with emerging filly Sister Madly, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

It says: Cummings's father, Hall of Fame entrant Bart, has three runners - Roman Emperor, Viewed and Allez Wonder - in the Caulfield Cup, while Anthony has Zavite and Red Lord guaranteed starts. Stablemate Miss Darcey is the fourth emergency for the $2.5 million event.

''It's a little bit disappointing Miss Darcey didn't make it into the field,'' Cummings jnr said yesterday. ''I suppose the fact she ran second in the Bart Cummings at Flemington cost her that final place in the top 18. She was beaten narrowly by Light Vision and he took the last spot.''

Cummings said Red Lord was ''spot on'' for the Caulfield Cup having galloped well on the course proper at Caulfield yesterday morning. The Naturalism Stakes winner will be ridden by Glyn Schofield on Saturday while Mark Zahra will partner Zavite.

''Zavite has come out of his race [Herbert Power] last Saturday in the best form of his career,'' Cummings said. ''He's rated around $101 to win the Caulfield Cup and that seems silly odds to me. I'd say he'd be closer to a $15 or $16 chance.''

Cummings is confident he can prepare for Saturday with a Thousand Guineas win courtesy of Sister Madly, which is a half-sister to former Hong Kong star sprinter Silent Witness.

Cummings did not buy Sister Madly at the sales, although he liked the filly by Redoute's Choice. But in a twist of fate he was given the horse to train by breeder Ian Smith, for who Cummings formerly prepared Innocent Kiss and Rose Of Cimmaron.
