DESPITE one of Australia's most powerful racehorse owners, Nathan Tinkler, splitting with his head trainer, the Melbourne operation of Mick Price will not be the benefactor of the break-up, reports The Age.
It says: Tinkler received Jason Coyle's resignation yesterday, but Price, who trains 30 horses for Patinack Farm, says his numbers will not be increasing due to the change of trainer. Price has 70 boxes at his Melbourne stable and 30 of them are occupied by Tinkler's team, but the trainer says he's reached capacity with his numbers.
''I've got 30 of them and I don't want to train any more than 70 horses and that's where I've put the cap,'' he said. ''He's got some nice horses with me but it's basically an owner-trainer relationship, but I think having any more than 70 horses at any time is far too much.''
Coyle has enjoyed great success with Tinkler, one of the nation's high-profile owners who has injected millions of dollars into Australian racing and breeding and currently has 400 horses on his books. Coyle will be replaced by Bart Cummings' long-time Sydney foreman John Thompson who will take over the huge team in the coming days.
