Progressive sprinter News Alert has enjoyed a fruitful Brisbane winter carnival, posting his second stakes victory in the Group Three Tattersalls WJ Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Prepared by Con Karakatsanis of Black Piranha fame, News Alert produced his customary bold effort, overcoming an awkward draw to go forward and sit just off the pace before overpowering all challengers to win the 1200 metre sprint by the best part of a length.

News Alert has shed his reputation as a bridesmaid and now boasts the record of four wins and 10 placings from 17 starts with prizemoney of $294,650.

Bred by Hobartville Stud and sold privately as a tried horse, News Alert is the first stakes-winner for his dam Breaking News, a half-sister by Brief Truce (USA) to stakes-winner Force Apollo from the family of Golden Slipper winner Star Watch.

News Alert is one of nine Australian stakes-winner for Danehill Dancer (IRE) this season, the Coolmore based stalwart doing a sensational job with more than 100 Australian winners and progeny earnings in excess of $5.8 million.

Danehill Dancer also provided the runner-up in the Group One Tattersalls Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm for the fillies and mares with regally bred Prima Nova (pictured) failing narrowly to emulate the performance of her dam Bonanova, who won the race twice in 1999 and 2000.

Already a stakes-winner earlier this season, Prima Nova charged home from near last to be beaten less than a length by Russeting.

Her performance continued a frustrating season in Australia for Danehill Dancer, who has finished without a Group One winner, but with five place-getters at the elite level in Light Fantastic, Moatize, Think Money, Kimillsy and now Prima Nova.

Fresh from siring a Group One winner at Royal Ascot in Mastercraftsman, Danehill Dancer returns to Australia this spring at the reduced fee of $88,000.
