Caulfield trainer Byron Cozamanis is looking forward to getting his lightly-raced three-year-old Repousser back on to firmer tracks and with that in mind he has scratched the son of Choisir from the $35,000 Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1300m) at Sandown on Wednesday.
An impressive debut winner at Moonee Valley as a two-year-old, Repousser also finished third behind Snitzerland at Mornington as a juvenile before struggling on wet tracks during a two-state winter preparation.
A horse with plenty of ability according to his trainer, Cozamanis said you could put the pen through his last preparation.
"He didn't come up in his second preparation, we gave him two tries on slow tracks and he just wouldn't go through the ground," Cozamanis said. "He goes pretty well this horse and I think he's got a bit of ability. He probably should have run second to Snitzerland at Mornington that day as he was flattened on the turn."
Repousser isn't the only horse to kick off his summer preparation for Cozamanis this week with speedy gelding The Soldier set to resume in the Listed $120,000 Doveton Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
A prolific winner, the former Northern Territory-based sprinter has won a phenomenal 26 races from 54 career starts, including 21 victories over his favourite distance of 1000m. (racingvictoria.net.au)
