A MID-WINTER meeting at Caulfield is a long way away from Santa Anita, but that is where connections of Sir John Monash Stakes winner I Am Invincible are hoping to be on November 7 for the $US1 million Breeders Cup Turf Sprint, reports the Sunday Age.

Its report adds: Yesterday, I Am Invincible, who had been expected to lead, was slowly away and jockey Darren Gauci had to bustle him along to take up his customary role in front with La Goulue up on his outside.

He beat her off in the early part of the straight and got a break, and then held off the late challenge of in-form sprinter Gran Sasso, who had to bullock his way into the clear but failed by a half-head.

"He was probably entitled to get a bit tired because Darren had to push him along early after he'd missed the kick," said trainer Peter Morgan, who outlined plans for his sprinter to race overseas.

Morgan has a program mapped out for I Am invincible to run in the Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield in two weeks, followed by the McEwan Stakes at Moonee Valley and then the group 1 Manikato Stakes, which will be run under lights this year at the same circuit.

Then, if all goes to plan, the rising five-year-old entire will be off to the US for the America's Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (1300 metres) in November and the Hong Kong Sprint (1200 metres) in December. Even a crack at Royal Ascot's big sprints next year will be considered.
