GLEN Boss' highly prosperous Christmas period of success looks certain to extend into early next year after the jockey gathered a strong book of rides at Friday's New Year's Day meeting, reports The Age.

It says: In the past fortnight Boss has managed to gather seven city winners. On Friday, two of the most important summer races will be staged at Flemington and Boss looks to have a vice-like grip on both. Boss will be aboard Grand Destiny in the Bagot Handicap, a ride that trainer Michael Kent and Boss believe is a genuine chance to score.

''He's a nice horse who I don't think will be troubled by the 2800 metres and although he's jumping 800 metres from his last win at Flemington, I think he'll relish the extra trip,'' Boss said yesterday. ''Mick [Kent] has trained him to perfection and has said all along that he's a work in progress and he's probably ready for this grade at this time of year.

''He always responds when you ask him for something and often his last hundred metres is his best. He manages to dig deep and that's a classic sign of a horse relishing extra journey.''Mick is a very good trainer of stayers and he knows when and where to place them, which is probably a key feature of his ability.''
