IT'S A long way from Dubbo to Dubai but Sniper's Bullet is trying to complete the journey as he targets the group 1 $US5 million Dubai Duty Free next month, reports The Age.

It says: Mudgee trainer Tracey Bartley confirmed he is chasing an invite for the six-year-old to the World Cup meeting, which will double as the grand opening of the new Meydan racetrack on March 27.

Sniper's Bullet, who will start his autumn campaign in the group 1 Orr Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, was among 72 Australian nominations for the meeting.

''I just think it is the ideal race for Sniper's Bullet after what he did in Perth,'' Bartley said. ''I remember what Elvstroem did when he won it and the way [Sniper's Bullet] is racing now is very similar.

''It seems if you can be racing on the speed, out of trouble, and give a little bit of kick to find a couple of lengths it takes a really good horse to run you down there.''

Since winning his maiden at Dubbo, Sniper's Bullet has raced around the country winning at group 1 level three times and being placed on another four.

The horse has been to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth but Bartley has always said he would be at his best as a six-year-old.
