Glen Boss is of the opinion that he will stick to El Roca's racing pattern and roll forward from a wide barrier in Saturday's $3 million The Star Doncaster Mile... reports Brent Zerafa from Racing Network

Zerafa wrote ont the Racing Network site that Trainer Trent Busuttin didn't appear overly impressed when he came up with gate 17 for the lightly raced three-year-old but Boss isn't concerned.

“Barriers aren’t a massive disadvantage in this race, especially with horses with a light weight that can go forward, I don’t think it is that bad for us,” he said.

“On face value there doesn’t look like there is massive amount of speed, they are not runners, there is not a designated leader who you know will just burn along in front, there is no real fast horses in the race.”

El Roca is rated a $13 chance with Sportsbet.com.au with Messene favourite at $4.20.

Boss has won the Doncaster four times and aboard a three-year-old on three occasions including Racing To Win (2006), Haradasun (2007) and Triple Honour (2008).

The leading jockey is having his first sit aboard El Roca on Saturday but said he chased the ride after the Fastnet Rock colt's narrow defeat in the Randwick Guineas.

“The day he got beaten in the Randwick Guineas, that is when I chased the ride, he looked above himself, he went to win and probably gotbeaten by a good horse on the day but he looked like he peaked on his run in my opinion.

“He was the one going forward that I thought would be a big chance in the Doncaster.

“He fit the profile, he has come out and run good again, at weight for age since, without winning but running well.”
