Racing Victoria facing a rebellion in the wake of its sudden decision to ban jumps racing. Warrnambool Racing Club says it is devastated by the decision. The club believes its important 4-day carnival will be wrecked without jumps racing. The WRC, along with the Australian Jumps Racing Association, plan to explore every opportunity to extend jumps racing beyond next year. A court challenge may be considered.

Many people in the jumps game are demanding that Racing Victoria release full details of the so-called 'research' it has which is said to show that 65% of Victorians are against jumps racing.

Warrnambool chairman Margaret Lucas says the battle has only just begun to have the jumps ban thrown out. 'RVL have lost touch with reality. Ninety-five percent of people in our industry are not the chardonnay set, but honest battlers who are doing it tough....RVL's pulled the rug out from underneath a multi-million dollar industry in a fragile economic climate and we won't be lying down...As far as we're concerned the battle has just begun.'
