DAMIEN Oliver didn't take long to hit a winning note in Melbourne after a trip to England to ride Nicconi, who finished unplaced in the July Cup at Newmarket last Friday, reports The Age.

It says: Yesterday, in his only ride for the day, Oliver combined with his old boss Lee Freedman to win on promising two-year-old Censor at Betfair Park.

''I've been waking up at one o'clock in the morning after getting back from the UK so I might head home for a sleep,'' Oliver quipped after the impressive win.

Censor won at his debut in maiden class at Kyneton and yesterday sat outside the leader Paranoid before drawing clear to win well. Censor was heavily supported, firming from $4 to $2.70. The $2.60 favourite Alotta Spur was found to have bled from both nostrils but stewards have requested further scoping to be done before deciding whether he is officially declared a bleeder, automatically incurring a three-month ban.
