Sizzling...World class sprinter Lankan Rupee displayed a new asset when he came from off the pace to brilliantly win a trial at Caulfield this morning (Tuesday).

Ridden by Dale Smith, Lankan Rupee was deliberately ridden off the pace early, before he displayed a stunning turn of foot to quickly run through to the front and clear away.

Stablemate Mandla finished second in the trial, while John Sadler’s classy sprinting mare, Vain Queen, caught the eye with her good effort to run third.

Lankan Rupee’s trainer Mick Price was very happy after this morning’s trial.

“He’s still got a bit of a tummy but we have set about this preparation to ride him a little quieter.

"He has to come up against some very good horses and maybe this is the best way to tackle them,” an always astute Mick Price said.

“He is being prepared for the Lightning Stakes then the Newmarket and the T. J. Smith in Sydney.

"It doesn’t seem like a lot of racing but they are all big, tough races and he seems right on track,” he added. (Racing Network)
