Lankan Rupee, the world’s best sprinter, sizzled in a trial at Caulfield on Tuesday morning. Lankan Rupee won by ‘about’ five lengths with Craig Newitt on board. Newitt gave trainer Mick Price a glowing report on the fog-shrouded gallop.

“He went well – it’s all good, the jockey said he went really well,” Price told TVN’s Bruce Clark.

Price said the horse had improved with every gallop this preparation and he will be right on target for his resumption in the Group 2 $200,000 McEwen Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 6.

Price said he will give Lankan Rupee another gallop on Saturday at Caulfield then take him to Moonee Valley next Tuesday morning for his final gallop before the McEwen.

“The timing seems to be right for the McEwen,” Price said.

His campaign will be the McEwen Stakes, Moir Stakes, Manikato Stakes – all at Moonee Valley – the $1 million VRC Sprint Classic (at Flemington), before a possible trip to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong International Sprint in December.
