RACING Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter is pushing for Lankan Rupee world rating to be lifted following his decisive win in last Saturday’s T.J. Smith Stakes. Carpenter, a committee member of the World Thoroughbred Rankings, said he would be submitting Lankan Rupee at a 123 rating on the back of his latest Group 1 victory. Lankan Rupee took a mark of 121 with his Newmarket Handicap win last month, but Carpenter said the Mick Price-trained gelding had risen to a new level. Carpenter said the winning margin - two lengths - overBufferingRebel Dane and Galaxy winner Tiger Teeswarranted his ranking being lifted. Already, Lankan Rupee is rated as the world’s best sprinter for the first three months of the 2014 calendar year. Carpenter said the next rankings will be released on the second Thursday in May. Lankan Rupee, one of the contenders for Australian Horse Of The Year honours, was beaten in a 955 metre race on the undercard of the Manikato Stakes. But, Lankan Rupee has since strung together six wins, including a first-ever treble of the Oakleigh Plate, Newmarket Handicap and T.J. Smith Stakes.
