LANKAN Rupee, the world’s best sprinter, is expected back at Mick Price’s Caulfield stables some time within the next week.

Price said Lankan Rupee, who has been in pre-training at the Waymouth family’s property at Boneo on the Mornington Peninsula for several weeks, would return to Caulfield “later this week or early next week”.

Lankan Rupee, who graduated from a 0-78 Benchmark win at Moonee Valley over 955 metres last October to a triple Group 1 winner and the highest rated sprinter in the work, will have his first three starts this preparation at Moonee Valley.

Price has mapped out a campaign that will see Lankan Rupee run in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000 m) on September 6, the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200 m) on September 26 and the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200 m) on October 24.

Lankan Rupee, which owns an international rating 123, will then head to the Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic (1200 m) on November 8.

Price said the options after the VRC Sprint Classic are the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot or the Hong Kong Sprint, which last week received a prize money injection to $2.55 million.

Group 1 winning mare Samaready and promising filly More Radiant are in pre-training in NSW with an expected return to Price’s stables before the end of the month.

Cranbourne Cup winner Pakal is already back in work while last Saturday’s winner Royal Snitzel will be freshened for a tilt at the Quezette Stakes (1100 m) at Caulfield on August 16. (Racing Network)
