ROBBIE Laing didn't hide his delight with the trial at Cranbourne today of Victoria Derby winner Polanksi. Polanski finished third, beaten three lengths behind Lankan Rupee in the second fastest of the 12 trials over 800 metres.

Laing said he could not have asked Polanski to do any more given he was up against quality sprinters.

"He made the corner pretty wide and lost ground, but was right there at the finish," Laing said. "The last little bit was beautiful."

Polanski will resume in the Group C F Orr Stakes (1400 m) at Caulfield on February 8 and then progress to the Group 1 Futurity (1400 m) at the same track a fortnight later. Laing will back-up Polanski in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600 m) at Flemington a week later. Laing said he would miss the Australian Cup as he did not want to run the colt three weeks in a row. He said Polanksi would then head to Sydney for the ATC Derby.
