TONY McEvoy will kick-start talented filly Piacenza’s Blue Diamond campaign in Adelaide. McEvoy entered Piacenza for a Blue Diamond Preview (1000 m) at Caulfield on Saturday, but has decided to run her at Morphettville.
Piacenza was a luckless third in the Debutant Stakes at her first start when started favorite, but jumped awkwardly and was then slow to begin before being tightened and then held up around the home turn.
This daughter of Denman surged late to finish a two length third behind Moonlight Hussler.
McEvoy said the Adelaide first-up run is something that he planned to give her a “good experience” following a torrid debut run.
He described the Debutant Stakes as “one that got away on us”.
“She had quite a nasty experience in the race getting buffeted and bumped, pushed and shoved,” McEvoy said.
“That’s why I thought it would be nice for her to have a less pressured race and hopefully she has a nice experience.
“I think she has come back well. She has strengthened and grown, she is a gorgeous filly.
“I have been really pleased with her and I’m looking forward to getting her to the races.”
“All being well she will come across for the (Blue Diamond) Prelude.”
Sportsbet.com.au has Piacenza a $34 chance for the Blue Diamond (1200 m) at Caulfield on February 22. (racingnetwork)
