Exciting three-year-old Alpine Eagle will not take part in the Sydney autumn carnival. Last Saturday’s runner-up in the Group 1 $500,000 Australian Guineas (1600m) was “jaded” after the race and is still taking time to recover.

Trainer Tony McEvoy will be closely monitoring the horse for the next few weeks.

“There are only two options with him. Either he’ll go to the paddock or to the Derby (Group 1 $500,000 SA Derby (2500m) May 9),” McEvoy said.

If McEvoy takes the SA Derby path he will get there via the Listed $80,000 Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m) at Morphettville on April 11, before the Group 3 $115,000 Chairman’s Stakes (2000m) at Morphettville on April 25.

“He was a bit jaded after the Guineas so I’m going to keep a close watch on him for the next few weeks before we make any definite decisions,” McEvoy said.
