Godolphin's Melbourne stable continued to shine on Australia Day, as Cohesion claimed theLadbrokes Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for colts and geldings, reports racing.com.

Jockey Ben Melham had a good hold on the second-starter who went straight to the front, and he comfortably held off huge runs from debutants Capannello and El Venetian to win the $150,000 Listed event.

Power Trip (fourth) pulled up poorly due to heat stress as the mercury rose at Caulfield, while Bullion Wolf (fifth) for SA trainer Lloyd Kennewell, and the hyped Weatherly (sixth) from Paul Messara'sstable were not disgraced - the latter missing the start in the five-furlong dash.

John O'Shea's Melbourne-based assistant David Charles said their tactics were to be handy after drawing barrier 11 of 14.

"It was John's plan to go forward from the wide gate with race experience under his belt, and his trial last week at Sandown. He was pretty ready to go for this race," Charles said post-race.

"The horse has had good experience in Melbourne while he's been there.

"He got that little cheap 100-200m rest in the run, and it showed in the end."

Melham said Cohesion set up the race in the early stages.

"He's got really good natural barrier speed," Melham said.

"He was able to cross them - we went quick to cross them.

"He come back under me in a good manner, and relaxed well, and had a good turn of foot in the finish."

Cohesion finished fourth on debut at Randwick in October, but comfortably won a Sandown trial on January 14.

Godolphin were the stars of the show on Saturday at Moonee Valley, claiming a double including Holler's win in the Group 2 Australia Stakes.
