Astute New Zealand trainer Donna Logan is looking outside the square with her Australian Oaks winner Rising Romance. Logan says she will nominate her rising four-year-old for all of the ‘majors’ in Melbourne this spring, but she suggests they can often be too tough for four-year-old mares.

"I'm not a fan of starting a preparation in such hard races and prefer to take softer options,” she said.

“It's a wonderful carnival, but the horses need to be well-conditioned for those Group One races otherwise they get flattened."

Speaking on the NZ Thoroughbred Racing website, Logan said she was already looking at the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) in December, on the famous International day there.

"We'll have her vaccinated for Hong Kong, obviously we would have to get invited but we'll be covering all the bases," she said.

"As a trainer you can't rule out any opportunities and we'll also be nominating for the Cox Plate and the Caulfield Cup."
