Dubai Gold Cup (3200m) winner Certerach is being aimed at this year’s $6 million Melbourne Cup (3200m). The UK-trained six-year-old returned home after his Dubai victory on March 29 and has been set for the 4000-metre Ascot Gold Cup during the Royal Ascot meeting in June, trainer Michael Halford told At The Races in the UK overnight. "He was back home the Tuesday after. He's been in the paddock since and he's fresh and well," Halford said. "We'll start back riding him maybe tomorrow. I'm still enjoying the success, but I think we will train him with Royal Ascot in mind and we'd love to have a tilt at the Melbourne Cup later in the year if we think he will get in," Certerach beat the Godolphin-owned Cavalryman in the Dubai Gold Cup in a controversial finish.
