Canberra sprinter Unanimously is an early defector from the June Stakes, leaving Squamosa as the only three-year-old in the Listed race at Randwick on Saturday.

Unanimously has been entered for races in Sydney and Melbourne but trainer Matthew Dale has already settled on a stakes race against the gelding's own age group at Flemington as a preferred target.

"I'll be taking him to Melbourne for a three-year-old race which is set-weights with penalties," Dale said.

"With him, I've taken the view he has plenty of time to take on the older horses."

At his only start against older rivals, Unanimously was beaten in a photo finish by Jest Crewsin' at Randwick on May 28.

Unanimously is one of 25 entries for the Creswick Stakes.

The Creswick also has Listed status but at $125,000 it carries $25,000 more prize money than the June Stakes.

Seventeen entries have been taken for the June Stakes with Border Rebel and Pinwheel sharing topweight with 59.5kg when handicaps were released on Monday.

Squamosa, who hasn't raced since his brave Golden Rose placing in late August, has the 53kg limit.

His effort to finish second to Toorak Toff in the $1 million race stamped him as one of Australia's emerging three-year-olds but it's been nothing but barrier trial practice since for the colt.

Ambitious summer plans were scrapped when Squamosa was being set for the Magic Millions Guineas and Waterhouse will use Saturday's as a guide to a potential spring campaign.

June Stakes entries also include Squamosa's stablemate Montana Flyer, the bush-trained Jest Crewsin' and Queensland four-year-old Sarge In Charge.

Pinwheel has campaigned successfully in three states this year, winning races in Sydney and Melbourne before a last-start Group One placing in The Goodwood at Morphettville in Adelaide.

Trainer Peter Snowden has also nominated Skytrain, a Rosehill barrier trial placegetter on Friday who has a liking for wet tracks.
