Well known bloodstock agent James Bester has paid $1.2 million for a Redoute's Choice colt at the second session of the Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.

The colt was the only million dollar plus yearling on Wednesday after two were sold a day earlier.

But despite the lack of those above the magic figure, the average remained at a healthy $223,541 with a clearance rate of 74 per cent.

"We expect to improve to high 70s tomorrow," William Inglis and Son managing director Mark Webster said.

"There are a lot of buyers who haven't unloaded yet.

"The middle of market is still where it was last year and is very competitive.

"It is off at the top, the top end is down 30 per cent."

The $1.2 million colt was offered by Kitchwin Hills Stud who paid $1.875 million for another Redoute's Choice colt on Tuesday which is the sale topper so far.

Bester, who also holds a trainer's licence, said the colt he purchased would remain in Australia but would not divulge the new owners.

"I bought him for undisclosed clients," Bester said.

"They are Australian and he will remain here.

"No trainer has been selected but it certainly won't be me."

Bester bought the highest priced lot at the New Zealand sale at Karaka earlier this year when he paid $NZ2 million for a Zabeel colt out of Diamond Like.

"This colt is the best mover I've seen since Zabeel colt in New Zealand," he said.

"He is a clone of his sire Redoute's Choice, as complete a colt as I've seen.

"His mother produced a Group One winner (Bon Hoffa) and a course record breaking Group Two winner (Before Too Long) from bread and butter sires so what can she do with Redoute's Choice.

"He just ticked every single box there was."
