Prominent syndicator Dean Watt has paid $1.8 million for an Encosta De Lago colt at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.

It is the highest price so far with the market closing Monday's first session more than 40 per cent down on 2008.

Watt said the purchase was on behalf of an overseas client with the colt to remain in Australia to race.

"It was a pre-existing order from an overseas buyer and he won't be syndicated," Watt said.

"There has been no decision on a trainer with three in the running.

"I had a little bit more to spend and was happy to get him at the price."

The colt's dam is Show Dancing, the mother of Group One winner Al Maher.

He is also from the immediate family of super sire Redoute's Choice.
