The decision by Patinack Farm to bypass the Golden Slipper with Onemorenomore paid dividends when the colt scored a strong win in the Listed TL Baillieu Handicap on a wet track at Randwick.

Nathan Tinkler's operation has two runners in Saturday's $3.5 million Slipper (1200m) - Marquardt and So Anyway - but decided early on Onemorenomore needed longer races.

The 1400 metres of the Baillieu proved the point and set him up for a tilt at the Sires' Produce (1400m) and Champagne Stakes (1600m).

"Our early fears that six furlongs (1200m) was too short for him were proven last start," trainer Jason Coyle said.

"We half-decided after his first start that was the case but we gave him another go.

"This is more his distance and he wouldn't have been competitive in the Slipper."

Onemorenomore ran third to Golden Slipper favourite Real Saga in the Breeders' Plate (1000m) in October and was third in the Silver Slipper (1100m) won by Melito when he returned in late February.

He tuned up for Wednesday's Baillieu assignment with a fifth in the Skyline Stakes (1200m) won by Slipper contender Manhattan Rain.

Rogue Warrior gave the Baillieu field something to chase and it was Onemorenomore who sustained the best finishing burst, coming from well back to overhaul the leader and win by a long head with Euphemism a half-head third and favourite Purdey fourth.

His jockey Peter Robl was more than happy with how the race panned out.

"He went terrific," he said.

"This was the first time we've been able to ride him to suit.

"I had him where he was happy and although he took a long time to wind up he was always travelling.

"And another big thing is that we also know he can handle the wet so bring on the Sires and the Champagne."

Robl will be aboard Marquardt in the Golden Slipper with Craig Williams to ride So Anyway.

Marquardt will be examined on Friday morning by Racing NSW chief veterinarian Dr Craig Suann after suffering a cut to her eyelid.

However, Coyle said he was hopeful it was less of an injury and more of a cosmetic blemish.

Real Saga was steady as $3.50 Slipper favourite with TAB Sportsbet on Wednesday while Marquardt was at $41 and So Anyway at $101.
