Chris Waller could easily have sent Little Surfer Girl to the paddock after her last-start flop but backed himself and elected to give the filly another crack and the move paid dividends when she scored impressively in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality at Randwick.

Waller said the filly was now a fifty per cent chance of backing up in the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) next Saturday at Randwick.

The victory continues Waller's outstanding form and comes a day after stablemate Danleigh won the Group One Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Little Surfer Girl's win was also significant because it was the second week in a row Waller had trained a stakeswinner for owner Bob Ingham after Stryker won the Heritage Stakes at Rosehill.

Ridden by Blake Shinn, Little Surfer Girl ($9.50) was given a quiet ride and settled midfield before letting down with a big run to defeat the $2.60 favourite Sister Madly by a long head with Miss Shamardal ($201) three-quarters of a length away third in the 1400-metre feature.

An Encosta De Lago filly, Little Surfer Girl came into the race after a fifth at a midweek Warwick Farm meeting on September 8.

"I'm not sure what happened last start," Waller said.

"I could have easily sent her to the paddock or stepped her up to a mile (1600m). But I backed myself and ran her today.

"We backed right off her work. She'll get a lot of confidence from this."

Trainer Anthony Cummings was pleased with the run from Sister Madly under the circumstances.

"I thought she went good," Cummings said.

"She had to do all the work being second outside the leader with a very strong wind blowing, there was no disgrace in her effort. I'm happy to back her up next week in the Flight."
