A shot at the Group One Myer Classic in Melbourne beckons for well-bred mare Little Surfer Girl following a dominant victory in Saturday's Listed Angst Stakes at Rosehill.
A masterful ride by Jim Cassidy, part of a winning treble for the champion jockey, aided the daughter of Encosta De Lago and the five-year-old sprinted clear along the inside to take out the 1400m fillies and mares feature by a length eased down.
Quidnunc ($9.50) rattled home from the tail of the field for second ahead of the Guy Walter-trained Skyerush ($10) who was another half-length back in third.
Little Surfer Girl's second career stakes victory was the second leg of Cassidy's treble while trainer Chris Waller also notched a treble after Subarc and Dystopia scored earlier in the day.
Waller wasn't on track but his racing manager Liam Prior said the Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington October 29 was Little Surfer Girl's major spring target.
"The Myer Classic is her grand final," Prior said.
"Obviously More Joyous is heading there so it is tough opposition but she is going terrific, she finished off last preparation in fine style and she's on the up."
Little Surfer Girl, sent out the $4.60 favourite, jumped well from the inside gate and took up a position in the box seat just behind the leader Zaira.
Cassidy stuck to the fence rounding the home turn and Little Surfer Girl scooted through to add the Angst Stakes to her Civic Stakes victory from the end of her previous preparation.
"She travelled beautifully the whole way," Cassidy said.
"The main thing was to make sure she began well and after we had gone a furlong (200m) I knew she was going to win.
"I wasn't too concerned about the (slow) ground, I think the track is pretty uniform right across and the fence is the shortest way home."
Cassidy's first winner came on the Waller-trained Dystopia while he ended the day with an all-the-way victory on favourite Somepin Anypin ($2) in the Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap (1350m).
"It was a chase, not a race," Cassidy quipped after Somepin Anypin's 2-1/4-length win over Erewhon.
"He was a moral and I rode him like a moral."
Waller's treble moved him to the top of the Sydney premiership, one ahead of Peter Snowden who prepared two-year-old first starter Tatra to win the Manildra Group Handicap (1100m).
