It has been a lucrative spring so far for trainer Guy Walter with Skyerush to represent the stable at Flemington on the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

The mare finished a luckless fourth in last Saturday's Group One Myer Classic (1600m) and is the $3.40 TAB Sportsbet favourite to back up a week later in the Group Two Matriarch (2000m).

Her stablemate Foxstar will miss the race after pulling up sore from her 1700m win on Tuesday.

Walter claimed a Group One double at Randwick last month with three-year-olds Streama and Doctor Doom winning the Flight Stakes and Spring Champion Stakes respectively.

Skyerush won the Listed Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford before her fourth in the Myer.

"She was fine after the Myer and has done everything right since," Walter said.

"She is a lovely mare who is improving all the time and I'm confident she can perform well in the Matriarch.

"Foxstar pulled up with some bruising to a foot after Tuesday so she is going for a spell."

The Chris Waller-trained Vintedge is a $9 chance for the Matriarch after going down to Foxstar by a nose on Tuesday.

Three starts ago, Vintedge finished fifth in the Listed Angst Stakes (1400m) at Randwick won by her stablemate Little Surfer Girl with Skyerush third.

Little Surfer Girl added to a frustrating spring for Waller when she went down by a short half-head in Tuesday's Group Three Herald Sun Stakes (1400m) won by Sophie's Spirit.
