Apprentice Chad Schofield will be unable to ride at this Saturday’s Aurie’s Star Handicap meeting at Flemington due to suspension. Schofield lost his appeal against a 10-meeting careless riding suspension on Wednesday, which stemmed from his ride aboard Northern Lyric in a 1100-metre maiden race at Geelong Synthetic last Friday.

Schofield appealed both the decision to suspend him and the severity of the penalty but did not request a stay of proceedings.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board believed Schofield was guilty of careless riding and maintained the stewards’ ruling.

Schofield will be free to ride on August 17, the day of the Group 2 Peter Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. (racingnetwork.com.au)
