Mega owner Lloyd Williams declares Kelinni as the horse to beat in Saturday’s Sydney Cup.

Williams is pleased with how his former import Mourayan is progressing towards the $500,000 Group 1, but noted it was hard not to be impressed with how Kelinni won yesterday’s Brookfield Multiplex Japan Racing Association Plate at Randwick.

While bookmakers are offering $4 about Kelinni, Williams said he rated him about a $2.75 chance.

“This horse ran fourth in a Melbourne Cup and won a Lexus and won that race yesterday most impressively,” Williams said.

Williams said Mourayan is certainly tracking along well towards the Sydney Cup.

“He’s well, he’ll be suited by the two miles (sic 3200 metres). He should run okay.

“I was happy with him the other day in the Chairman’s Handicap. He was a bit underdone, it was his first run in five weeks.

“That should have cleaned him up and Hughie Bowman knows him well.”
