William Reid Stakes headline act Hay List wasn't at Moonee Valley on Monday morning but several of his rivals in this Friday night's Group 1 were and embarked on some valuable trackwork at the unique course.

Newmarket Handicap placegetters Buffering and Foxwedge were joined by Oakleigh Plate winner Woorim and Group 1-winning mare Beaded in a special trackwork session four days out from the $400,000 event.

The Peter Snowden-trained Beaded was the standout performer of the 1000-metre gallops.

The Doomben 10,000 winner showed she had taken no ill-effects from her Newmarket 11th placing, which was the first time in 24 starts she has finished further back than fourth, when she scooted home the final 400m in 23.63 seconds.

The John O'Shea-trained Foxwedge had a leisurely hit-out, only asked to exert himself the final 200m, while Robert Heathcote-trained stablemates Buffering and Woorim increased the tempo from the 400m, which they covered in 24.31secs.

The trackwork session set the scene for what shapes as an exciting culmination of the Melbourne Festival of Racing.

Newmarket Handicap winner Hay List, who was due to reacquaint himself with the Moonee Valley circuit tomorrow morning but has since had that workout abandoned, heads the 11 nominations for the 1200-metre Power Tracker William Reid Stakes.

Along with those that worked this morning, former Hong Kong sprinter Happy Zero, Goodwood winner Lone Rock and last year's Oakleigh Plate winner Eagle Falls are Group 1 winners entered.

Track specialist Rekindled Interest, winner of last year's Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and third in the Cox Plate, the consistent Love Conquers All and the Peter Moody-trained Mid Summer Music round out the William Reid nominations.

The William Reid Stakes, won last year by Black Caviar, is one of several features on a bumper eight-race card that includes a pair of $200,000 Group 2 events over 1600m for the girls.

Kewney Stakes winner Empress Rock, who also worked at Moonee Valley today, heads entries for the Sportingbet Fillies Classic, while AJC Oaks winner Absolutely joins last-start Group 3 winners Raspberries and Spirit Song and well-performed mares Hi Belle and Lady Lynette in the Sunline Stakes.

The Moonee Valley meeting also features a slick $100,000 Premium Plate (1200m) for the three-year-olds and a $100,000 Super VOBIS Night Racing Stayers Challenge Final (3000m), along with the final heat of the Essendon Mazda 55 Second Challenge.

General Truce, whose 55.28 seconds is the benchmark time in the series that offers a Mazda BT-50 to the trainer of the horse who records the fastest time over the 955m trip, is among 22 nominations. (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
