RACING Victoria handicappers will ask glamour mare Black Caviar to defy more than 100 years of history in the VRC Newmarket Handicap at Flemington on March 12, reports the Brisbane Courier-Mail.

It says: TAB Sportsbet has posted markets for the Melbourne Group 1 autumn features, and Black Caviar is a $2.30 Newmarket favourite. The Peter Moody trained mare, which is unbeaten in eight starts, was last week named the Champion Sprinter of the World in the latest World Thoroughbred Rankings. That reputation comes with a lofty rating.

Racing Victoria senior handicapper Neil Jennings says Black Caviar will need to set a modern-day record for a mare to win the Newmarket. Jennings said Black Caviar's domestic rating of 118 would equate to her being allotted 57.5kg, if Newmarket weights were released today. A win in the Lightning Stakes, for which she would be odds-on favourite, would most likely push the impost to 58kg.
