While the Peter Snowden-trained Forensics holds sway with punters for Saturday's Myer Classic at Flemington, rival trainer Guy Walter believes Sheikh Mohammed should keep an eye on his second set of colours to be worn by Hugh Bowman on Bernicia.
Walter's Warwick Farm neighbour Snowden trains the bulk of the Darley horses and has a soft spot for Forensics who gave him his first Group One victory as a trainer when she won the Queen Of The Turf in the all cerise of Woodlands Stud.
Bernicia has yet to win at the highest level but Walter believes barrier six will assist her cause and help make amends for her last-start seventh to Classic rival Mimi Lebrock when she drew wide.
"I'm extremely happy with Bernicia," Walter said.
"She galloped on the course proper on Tuesday with Mimi Lebrock.
"She's drawn a nice gate and will appreciate the wide open spaces of Flemington.
"She got too far back from the wide alley at Caulfield and I was very happy with how she finished the race off."
By Darley stallion Elusive Quality, the sire of Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, Bernicia is out of Blue Diamond Stakes winner Danelagh.
She had a spectacular start to her career, winning her first three starts earlier this year before running fourth to Heavenly Glow in the Group One Arrowfield Stakes (2000m).
That race convinced Walter she was not destined to be a stayer and he abandoned plans to run her in the AJC Australian Oaks which was also won by Heavenly Glow.
Her best effort in four starts since was her third in the Listed Nivison (1200m) in late September prior to her Caulfield run.
She was quoted at $18 for the Myer Classic on Thursday with Forensics at $4.
Kerrin McEvoy rode Bernicia at her most recent start but will be aboard Forensics on Saturday.
The two will line up alongside each other at the barriers with Forensics in seven while Mimi Lebrock ($7) has the hardest task from the outside alley in the 16-horse field.
