Lucky Secret may make a cameo appearance in Tasmania in preference to contesting Melbourne's elite sprints at the end of the month.

Trainer Tony Vasil said the weight-for-age Listed Premium Stakes (1200m) at Launceston on January 24 was among the options for Lucky Secret now that plans for him to run in next Saturday's Group One $NZ1 Million Telegraph Handicap (1200m) in Wellington had been scrapped.

"It was just going to be too hard to get there," Vasil said of the New Zealand mission, which required a flight to Auckland and a 10-hour float trip to Wellington.

Lucky Secret had been the early favourite for the Telegraph with local Wealth Princess now heading the NZ TAB market.

Vasil said there were a lot of options for Lucky Secret in the autumn but he would avoid running him on hard tracks.

He said the Group Two Australia Stakes (1200m) under lights at Moonee Valley on Friday and the Group One Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on January 30 remained options for Lucky Secret.

"I am not cancelling out the Lightning," Vasil said.

"He's had two runs at Flemington and both times he has gone putrid, but he broke down one time and he came down the wrong side of the straight the other," Vasil said.

"You would think 1000 metres down the straight would be perfect for him.

"He may run in the Australia Stakes instead but if we wanted a soft option there is the weight-for-age race in Tassie.

"He would be a bit of a crowd puller down there and I am not ruling it out."

Lucky Secret, who also had a Perth excursion abandoned in November, hasn't raced since winning the Listed Heffernan Stakes (1300m) at Sandown on November 14.

A winner of 14 of his 23 starts he has won almost $1 million.

Last year he was beaten in a photo finish by Swiss Ace in the Group One Oakleigh Plate and Vasil said that providing he didn't get too much weight he could again contest that feature.
