Talented sprinter Lucky Secret is set to give a lift to Aquanita trainer Tony Vasil who is recuperating from three operations in the last five weeks.

After having knee and ankle surgery last month, Vasil had a hip replacement this week as Lucky Secret prepared for Saturday's Group Three Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

Aquanita's racing manager Sam Doran said Vasil had picked out the Rubiton for the five-year-old after his spring campaign and the signs were promising that he would justify his dominant $1.45 quote with TAB Sportsbet.

Only six horses have accepted for the Rubiton with last start Christmas Stakes winner Mind Your Head ($4.60) given the best chance of causing an upset while Robbie Griffiths-trained stablemates Happy Glen and Cocinero share the third line at $8.

Heresay ($21.00) and Bond Street ($26) make up the field.

"Pretty much since Lucky Secret went out for spell at the end of the spring this was the race Tony targeted for him," Doran said.

A winner of nine of his 13 starts, Lucky Secret posted his first Group Two success on Cox Plate Day when he scored a 2-1/4 length win over Bel Mer in the Schweppes Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

His last run, when 10th at Flemington on Oaks Day, should be forgotten as he came down grandstand rail where it was impossible to win.

"Personally I am not sure if he is a Flemington horse anyway," said Doran, referring to Lucky Secret's two failures down the straight.

"He is much better suited running around a corner."

During the week regular race rider Dan Brereton gave Lucky Secret a final tune up for the Rubiton in a jumpout at Caulfield.

"He will certainly run well on Saturday," Doran said.

"He has worked well and he ran good time in the jumpout Tuesday morning."

Lucky Secret is by former top galloper Rubiton who has Saturday's race named in honour.

Rubiton won four Group One races including the 1987 Cox Plate and is also the sire of 1999 Rubiton winner Flavour.

Vasil has had a love for the race since he won it three years in a row with Super Elegant from 2003 to 2005.
