Unbending rules, bad publicity...Sometimes the actions of officialdom beggars belief...Latest reports say that Victorian jockeys are on the warpath after RV stewards banned injured rider Kate Mallyon from the female jockeys' room at two of the state's venues in the last week. Katelyn, who faces up to a year off the scene after suffering a severe neck injury in a fall at Flemington in May, says stewards had requested her to leave female jockeys' rooms at Bendigo and Geelong. "I can't believe it, I'm devastated," Mallyon said. "It's like they don't want me to be part of the industry...It's very important for me to still be part of it and see my friends. I think it's important for my rehabilitation." Stewards enforced the rule stipulating only riders competing at the meeting are allowed to stay in the jockeys' area. Steward Heidi Lester says the stewards "can't treat certain jockeys differently to others in these situations."
