No surprise...Blake Shinn has lodged an appeal against the severity of the disqualification handed to him by Racing NSW stewards for illegal betting on races.

Hysteria wins out...Racing Victoria Limited has announced an independent review to compare the turnover-based and the gross profit models of product fees paid by corporate bookmakers. Racing NSW's win over Sportsbet in the Federal Court (now being appealed) has created anger with RVL's approach to charging the corporate bookies with owners and trainers accusing Victorian racing's governing body of 'backing the wrong horse'.

Wake up, Kathy and turn the phone off...Jockey Kathy O'Hara has been fined $2500 for making and receiving telephone calls while competing at race meetings. Racing NSW stewards held an inquiry into telephone communications between O'Hara and her boyfriend jockey Blake Shinn while she was engaged at race meetings between July 29 and September 18. Shinn was not riding at the meetings. Stewards say they are satisfied the calls were not associated with Shinn's betting activities. Kathy pleaded guilty to using a mobile phone on 24 occasions over six race meetings between July 29 and September 18 to communicate with Shinn. Stewards took into account that she'd previously been penalised on two occasions for a similar offences before issuing a fine of $2500.
