Peter Moody will have just one runner in each of the Group 3 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Preludes at Caulfield on Saturday, after electing not to start the much hyped Thermal Current.

The son of Exceed and Excel is currently the $9.00 fourth favourite for the Group 1 $1 million Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes but Moody said the colt would be better served going straight into the race on Saturday fortnight.

''I'm not going to start Thermal Current. I'll sweat on him getting into the field without another run,'' Moody said.

''He's had two runs now and I don't think he needs another on the back of his work here yesterday.''

Thermal Current produced an outstanding performance in the Blue Diamond Preview at his last start, where he ran into trouble wherever he went.

Once he eventually got clear running over the final stages, he flashed home strongly to finish third behind stablemate Dissident.

At present, Thermal Current is number 13 on the order of entry for the Blue Diamond with a field of 16 to start.

However all going well, there are likely to be late nominations from connections of Miracles Of Life, Metastasio and Moody's Dissident, which will push Thermal Current further down the list.

The landscape may also change further depending on results of the Prelude races on Saturday.

Moody said he had been pleased with Dissident which worked with Thermal Current on Tuesday and he was looking forward to seeing improvement from him, after he scored a strong debut win in the Preview, despite racing very greenly.

''He (Dissident) has done well since the Preview and hopefully that experience will have him racing a bit more truly on Saturday.'' (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
