Mark Kavanagh’s boom three-year-old Henrythenavigator colt West Africa, will run at Moonee Valley on Friday night. The part Coolmore-owned West Africa has drawn barrier four in the $35,000 Alternate Railway Handicap (1000m) and Kavanagh has engaged Stephen Baster to ride.

West Africa created a huge impressive on debut when a stunning nine-length winner of a Maiden at Kilmore on November 12, over 1112 metres.

The horse that ran third in that race – the Darley-owned Rile – then went back to Kilmore three weeks later and won a Maiden, franking the form.

Friday night’s race is a Benchmark 70 and the horse will meet some interesting opposition from leading stables including Robert Smerdon, Anthony Freedman, Anthony Cummings, Peter Moody and Team Hawkes.
