Gifted but injury-plagued galloper Chase The Rainbow heads an exciting list of 20 nominations in Saturday’s $120,000 Listed Doveton Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield. Last seen at the races winning over 1400 metres at Caulfield in September 2012, trainer Rick Hore-Lacy had planned to target the five-year-old at the BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) in October before he succumbed to a second tendon injury in 12 months.

A winner of the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley as a three-year-old, should the son of Dash For Cash hope to return with a victory he could have to defeat an impressive field.

Other key nominations include Mick Price’s Stakes-winning mare Loveyamadly, multiple city winner Rescue Mission, exciting three-year-old Lord Of The Sky, reigning Essendon Mazda 55 Second Challenge champion Vatican and veteran sprinter Zedi Knight.

A further highlight on the eight-race National Jockeys’ Trust Race Day program is the $100,000 open handicap over 1600 metres which features 23 entries headed by Eximius.

Among four career wins, the Mick Price-trained four-year-old boasts a victory in the Listed Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) in June.

Fellow Caulfield trainer Peter Moody has Group 2 Drake International Cup (2500m) winner Vatuvei and progressive mare Zoomania both entered alongside the likes of last-start Moonee Valley winner Lord Wimble and David Hayes’ import Auld Burns.

Hore-Lacy features prominently among the nominations again with one-time boom galloper Clevadude leading a list of 18 entries in the Benchmark 78 three-year-old handicap over 1000 metres.

The son of Bel Esprit is one of six horses in the field qualified for $50,000 worth of Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold bonuses on top of the $80,000 prize money.

Robbie Laing has entered Lord Of The Sky (also nominated in the Doveton Stakes), with the colt one of six last-start winners among the nominations that also include nine-length debut Kilmore winner West Africa and Phillip Stokes’ Lucky Symbol.
