BETTING agencies have taken a set against two early favourites in Group I events at tomorrow's Caulfield Guineas meeting after punters focused on value runners, reports Brendan Cormick in The Australian.

His report says: Toorak Toff had been the favourite for the $1 million Caulfield Guineas (1600m) when the barrier draw was completed on Tuesday, but he was displaced yesterday at the head of the market by Sydney visitor Ilovethiscity.

TAB Sportsbet had Toorak Toff at $4 ahead of Ilovethiscity at $4.60, but yesterday their positions were reversed. The dramatic change was mirrored by other betting agencies and one Northern Territory-based corporate bookmaking firm slashed Ilovethiscity to $3.80, vowing to offer clients limited wagering on Toorak Toff at $6 on race morning.

Gerard Twomey, a racing analyst for a corporate bookmaker, said there was no doubting the quality of the Guineas, and while Toorak Toff was a genuine winning chance, he felt his price was "unders".
