Friday night's Stutt Stakes is the first step of a plan Gai Waterhouse has designed to see Pierro emulate one of her father's great horses - Red Anchor. He was prepared by the great Tommy Smith, had the first Melbourne start of his Cox Plate-winning campaign in 1984 in the Stutt Stakes, claiming the Caulfield Guineas in between. Gai makes no secret of the fact she is following the same path with Pierro, who she says displays similarities to the former champion colt.
