After two hip operations and six months away from the track Mark Zahra hopes to be back riding trackwork

After  two hip operations and six months away from the track Mark Zahra hopes to be back riding trackwork by the end of the week, reports Racing Network news.

Zahra, who hasn’t ridden since Sandown Classic day last November, said he had a couple more sessions of physio remaining this week.

“I’m hopeful of riding track work by the end of this week, but if not definitely next week,” Zahra said.

Zahra underwent surgery for one hip in late November then had the other operated on in February.

He said he hurt one hip in a fall and the other was as a result of just wear and tear.

“The pain just became unbearable. I’m hoping it will feel heaps better when I resume,” Zahra said.

“I’ll probably ride track work for about a month before I start back riding in races.”

Zahra said he’s likely to return riding trackwork for Robert Smerdon, who provided him with the Listed Gucci Stakes winner Shamal Wind on Oaks Day.
