Trainer Mick Kent is on the country Cups trail with Zoomin who will try for a winning hat-trick in the $100,000 RM Ansett Classic at Sandown on Saturday.

The former New Zealand galloper joined Kent's Cranbourne stables after winning the Listed Rotorua Cup (1900m) last October.

The Pupil gelding has had six starts in Australia since resuming from a spell in April and found form on wet tracks, winning second-up after a nine-week break over 2000m at Caulfield on August 14 before making it two straight over the same trip at Flemington on September 4.

On that occasion he defeated Ansett Classic rival Miles Above by two lengths.

"He was recommended to me by a bloodstock agent friend in New Zealand who knows that I'm always on the lookout for staying horses," Kent said.

"He's a noted wet tracker. It took a while to work him out and he has really improved since the blinkers went on (at Caulfield two starts back).

"The intention is to try and find some soft country Cups for him."

The 2400m Ansett Classic is usually run at Mornington but with a delay in getting the new surface there up and running due to the wet weather in recent weeks the meeting was transferred to the Hillside circuit at Sandown.

Zoomin has already had experience at Hillside where he was narrowly beaten by Forbidden Quest when runner-up over 1800m at his Australian debut on April 24.

With Craig Williams riding at Randwick on Saturday, Glen Boss takes over the reins on the six-year-old.

Kent said the 2400m was "where he needs to be" at this stage.

Zoomin's eight wins from 25 starts have been on dead to heavy tracks and the going was rated a dead (4) for Sandown.

Several of Saturday's opposition are vying to improve their ratings with Caulfield and Melbourne Cup starts in mind including Gorky Park, Persian Star, Miles Above, Muir and Triumphant Choice.

Macedonian is still in the Melbourne Cup only as are Phaze Action and Cedarberg.

Remaining in The Metropolitan at Randwick on Saturday week are the David Hayes-trained Gorky Park and the Peter Moody-trained pair Macedonian and Triumphant Choice.
